The Securities Industry Essentials® (SIE®) Exam is often seen as the first step toward a career in the securities industry — but what can you actually do with it?
The short answer: the SIE alone does not qualify you to perform registered securities activities, but it does open doors to entry-level roles and helps you stand out with prospective employers.
🧾 What the SIE Allows You to Do

However…
❌ You cannot sell securities, give financial advice, or perform trading functions with the SIE alone.
❌ You must pass a top-off exam and be sponsored by a FINRA-member firm to become a registered representative.

With just the SIE, you’re limited to non-registered positions, such as:

- Supervise reps or operations → Add Series 24 or 99
