🖥️ FINRA Confirms Remote Proctoring Expansion
More Flexibility for Candidates Taking Licensing Exams
In a major update for the securities licensing industry, FINRA has officially expanded its remote proctoring program, allowing more candidates to take exams like the SIE, Series 63, Series 65, and Series 66 from the comfort of their home or office.
This move follows successful pilot programs and reflects FINRA’s commitment to providing secure, flexible testing options across the country.
âś… What Exams Are Now Eligible for Remote Proctoring?
As of the latest update, the following exams can be taken online via remote proctoring:
- Securities Industry Essentials (SIE)
- Series 63 – Uniform Securities Agent State Law Exam
- Series 65 – Uniform Investment Adviser Law Exam
- Series 66 – Uniform Combined State Law Exam
Note: The Series 7 and other higher-tier qualification exams are still offered only at testing centers.
🧑‍💻 How Remote Proctoring Works
Remote proctoring is administered through Prometric’s ProProctor™ platform, allowing candidates to:
- Test from a private, quiet, and well-lit location
- Be monitored in real time by a live, remote proctor via webcam and microphone
- Follow the same rules and structure as in-person testing
- Use virtual check-in and identity verification
đź“‹ Requirements to Qualify
To take an exam remotely, candidates must meet the following:
- A reliable internet connection
- A Windows or Mac computer (no tablets or Chromebooks)
- A functioning webcam and microphone
- A private space with no interruptions
FINRA recommends candidates complete a system check in advance using Prometric’s tools.
đź”’ Security and Integrity
FINRA emphasizes that remote exams maintain the same security standards as test-center exams, including:
- Identity verification
- Browser lockdown
- Live proctor supervision
- Room scans
Violations of test rules may result in disciplinary action or a ban from future testing.
đź“… Scheduling and Availability
- Candidates can schedule through FINRA’s Test Enrollment Services System (TESS)
- Remote appointments are offered 7 days a week, including evenings
- Rescheduling and cancellation policies mirror those of in-person exams
