Published on https://finra-exam-mastery.com
⏳ Series 6 License Validity
The Series 6 license remains valid as long as you are continuously registered with a FINRA-member firm.
If your registration is terminated, the license remains valid for up to:
- 2 years (24 months) from the date of termination
After that, you must retake and pass the exam to regain the license.
🔄 What Can Cause a License to Lapse?
Your Series 6 license will expire if:
- You leave your firm and are not registered elsewhere within 2 years
- Your firm files a Form U5 (termination notice) and you don’t join a new firm in time
- You are inactive and not working in a licensed capacity
💼 Keeping Your License Active
To maintain your Series 6 registration:
- Stay employed with a sponsoring broker-dealer
- Fulfill Continuing Education (CE) requirements
- Keep your CRD record current and compliant
🧾 CE Requirements
FINRA requires:
- Regulatory Element training at specified intervals
- Firm Element training based on your firm’s annual requirements
Failure to meet CE obligations can result in a suspension or termination of registration.
