⏱️ Series 7 Exam Retake Waiting Periods
If you don’t pass the Series 7 exam on your first try, FINRA allows you to retake it—but specific waiting periods apply between attempts.
📅 FINRA Retake Rules for Series 7
- After 1st or 2nd Failure:
➤ You must wait 30 calendar days before your next attempt. - After 3rd Failure (and all subsequent failures):
➤ You must wait 180 calendar days (approximately 6 months) before retesting.
✅ There is no limit to how many times you can take the exam, but the waiting periods are strictly enforced.
💰 Re-Enrollment Process
- Your sponsoring firm must refile your Form U4
- You must pay the exam fee again (currently $300)
- Schedule your retake through Prometric once FINRA processes your re-enrollment
🧠 Use the Waiting Period Wisely
✔️ Focus on your lowest-scoring content areas from your score report
✔️ Use timed practice tests to improve pacing and endurance
✔️ Study smarter, not longer—prioritize high-weighted topics and suitability scenarios
✔️ Aim to score 80%+ on practice exams before your retake
🎯 Be Better Prepared Next Time
Turn your first attempt into a learning opportunity. With targeted practice, adjusted strategy, and the right tools, your next attempt can be your last.
