đ How to Interpret Your FINRA Exam Score Report
Understand Your Results and What They Mean for Your Licensing Path
After completing a FINRA examâwhether it’s the Series 7, 63, 65, or any otherâthe first thing you see is your score report. Understanding this report is crucial whether you passed or need to retake the exam. Here’s how to break it down:
â Pass or Fail â Clearly Stated at the Top
- Your score report begins with a clear pass/fail status.
- If you passed, congratulations! Your licensing process can proceed.
- If you didnât, donât panicâyouâll receive performance feedback to help you prepare for your next attempt.
đ Your Final Score
- Displayed as a percentage score (e.g., 74%).
- To pass, you must meet or exceed the passing threshold, such as:
- Series 7: 72%
- Series 63: 72%
- Series 65: 72%
- Series 66: 73%
- SIE: 70%
Even if you pass, your score is not included in your official FINRA recordâonly the pass status matters.
đ Performance by Content Area
If you fail the exam, your score report will show topic-by-topic breakdowns, often labeled with categories such as:
- Regulatory Framework
- Trading & Market Making
- Customer Recommendations & Suitability
- Investment Vehicles & Risks
Youâll see your performance in each category, marked by:
- Strong
- Marginal
- Needs Improvement
This helps you identify weak areas for targeted review before retaking.
𧞠Retake Policy Reminder
If you failed:
- You must wait 30 days before your next attempt.
- After three failed attempts, a 180-day wait is imposed before any further retakes.
đď¸ What Happens to Your Score Report
- A digital copy is kept in your CRD (Central Registration Depository) file.
- Your sponsoring firm will also receive the results if they submitted Form U4.
- If youâre testing independently (e.g., SIE), the result is recorded in your FINRA profile and can be linked to a future firm.
đŻ Turn Feedback into a Strategy
- Review your weak areas using targeted quizzes and concept drills.
- Reinforce strong areas with brief reviewâbut focus on what cost you the most points.
- Use full-length practice exams to track improvement before your retake.
