🟨 What ID Do You Need for a FINRA Exam?
Don’t get turned away—make sure your identification meets the rules.
When arriving at your FINRA exam—whether it’s Series 6, Series 7, Series 63, or any other—you’ll need to present valid, government-issued photo identification that matches exactly the name on your exam registration.
✅ Accepted Forms of ID
To sit for your exam, you must bring one current, unexpired ID from this list:
- Passport
- Driver’s license
- State-issued ID card
- Military ID
- National ID card (if testing outside the U.S.)
🔐 The ID must:
- Contain your full legal name (must exactly match the name used for exam registration)
- Include a recent photo
- Be government-issued and unexpired
- Include your signature
❌ NOT Accepted
Avoid bringing the following, as they do not meet FINRA’s ID requirements:
- Social Security cards
- Student IDs
- Work badges
- Expired documents
- Photocopies or digital versions
🔄 What If Your ID Doesn’t Match?
If the name on your ID doesn’t match the name on your exam registration (e.g., due to a marriage name change or typo), you must:
- Contact FINRA or your test center in advance to correct the registration.
- Bring legal documents (like a marriage certificate) if you must explain a name mismatch.
Otherwise, you may not be allowed to test—and you’ll lose your exam fee.
🧭 Testing Center Security
In addition to ID, be prepared for:
- Palm vein scan or fingerprint scan
- Photo taken on-site
- Signature verification
All personal items (phones, wallets, bags) will be stored in a secure locker during the exam.
📣 Pro Tip
Double-check the name on your FINRA account and your ID at least one week before your test date to avoid last-minute surprises.
